County Officials Council Swears in New Leaders

Scott Coleman, Logan County engineer, was installed as president of the Ohio Council of County Officials (OCCO) for 2019-20 at the council's January meeting by Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Jerry McBride, who had served as OCCO president for the previous two years.

Also installed were Vice President Jill Thompson, Athens County Auditor and Secretary/Treasurer Michelle Mumford, Shelby County Clerk of Courts.

The Ohio Council of County Officials membership consists of the statewide associations of elected county officials representing auditors (CAAO), clerks of the courts of common pleas (OCCA), county commissioners (CCAO), coroners (OSCA), engineers (CEAO), judges of the court of common pleas as selected by the Ohio Judicial Conference (OJC), prosecuting attorneys (OPAA), recorders (ORA), sheriffs (BSSA) and treasurers (OCTA).

The main purpose of the organization is to unite the various associations representing county elected officials and judges to promote sound, efficient and fiscally responsible governance, while maintaining sufficient checks and balances within the county government structure. OCCO serves as a forum where the various associations can discuss issues of mutual concern and attempt to resolve any differences of opinion. The OCCO also lobbies the Ohio General Assembly and strives to promote a greater understanding by the citizens of Ohio of the important role county government serves.
